Marlene Joan “Pookie” Thompson, of Palestine, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, the 23rd day of November 2025, at the age of 82. She was born on the 6th day of May 1943 in Willcox, Arizona to parents Alvie “Clon” Evans and Eva Jo Earp Evans.
Marlene’s spirit will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched with her generosity and compassion. Left with warm memories are her daughter, Tammy Pike and husband Steve; son, Jerry Thompson, Jr. and wife Laura; sisters, Cheryl Evans and Diana Evans; brothers, Tommy Evans, Dennis Evans, David Evans; grandchildren, Natasha Pisano, Kristan Thompson, James Pike, and Evan Thompson, along with several great-grandchildren and a multitude of friends.
Marlene is preceded in death by her parents Clon and Eva Jo Evans and her husband Jerry Thompson.
Marlene's zest for life was contagious. She was a true "social butterfly," always at the heart of gatherings and known for her outgoing personality. Her sociable nature was matched by her courage to stand up for what was right, a trait that inspired many and cemented her reputation as a woman of principle. Her love for her family was boundless, and she cherished every moment spent with them. An avid Elvis Presley fan, Marlene's collection of memorabilia and music was a testament to her admiration for the King of Rock 'n' Roll. Her creative spirit found joy in crafting, a hobby through which she expressed her love and thoughtfulness by creating beautiful, handmade gifts for those she held dear.
Her love story with her husband of 55 years, which started on a blind date was one for the ages, a partnership built on mutual respect and laughter. Together, they navigated life's challenges and celebrated their joys, always side by side. Before her retirement, Marlene dedicated many years of service as a bookkeeper at San Jacinto College in Pasadena.
A devout Christian, Marlene was a cherished member of the Crockett Road Church of Christ, where she served others with grace and devotion. She alongside her husband, also served the community at the Stock Pot of Palestine, delivered Meals on Wheels in Oakwood, and visited many nursing homes in the Anderson County Area. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her everyday actions and the kindness she extended to all who knew her.
Funeral services to honor Marlene Thompson are to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 6th day of December 2025 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Jeff Hutton officiating the service. Interment will follow in Roselawn Park, where Mrs. Thompson will be laid to rest next to her husband.
Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the start of the service at Rhone Funeral Home.
