Mellissa Rosa Evans

Mellissa Rosa Evans, age 55, of Palestine, Texas, went home to be with our loving Lord and Savior on Saturday, the 13th day of November 2021.  Mrs. Evans passed away in Dallas with her devoted family by her side.  She was born in Brewton, Alabama, on the 30th day of June 1966, to parents Lewis Carnley and Verla McBride.

Mellissa was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  Her grandchildren brought her great joy in life, and she always enjoyed spoiling them.  Mellissa was retired from T.D.C.J. where she worked for 29 years as a correctional officer.  Throughout her retirement, she enjoyed crocheting hats and blankets plus many other items for her family.  She also loved reading books and watching her favorite soap operas.  Mellissa was true to her Alabama roots and supported the Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team. She enjoyed cheering for them any chance she could. Her bigger than life personality and kind soul will be greatly missed by so many people.  However, she will live forever in the hearts of many, especially her precious grandchildren.          

Mellissa joined in Heaven her father, Lewis Carnley; brothers, Larry Carnley and Terry Countryman.

Mellissa is survived by her husband of 27 years, Clay Evans; mother, Verla McBride; daughter, Kayla Evans Fenwick and husband John of Tyler; sons, Johnathan Brown and wife Shannon of Palestine, Michael Alexander and wife Donna of Palestine, and Jacob Brown of Huntsville; brothers, Christopher Carnley, Wendell Lewis Carnley, Jr., and Billy Mac Carnley; and grandchildren, Addison Brown, David Brown, Brendyn Alexander, Lillian Fenwick, and Ethan Brown.  Mellissa also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 17th day of November 2021 at Rhone Funeral Home.

A graveside service to celebrate Mellissa’s life is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 18th day of November 2021 at Land of Memory Cemetery with Dwight Franklin officiating the service.
