Michael Lee Gordon, age 71, of Elkhart, Texas, left this world for his heavenly home on Saturday, the 28th day of February 2026. He was surrounded by the love and support of his devoted family when he passed away to be with our Lord, the God who wipes away all tears. “Mike” as he was best known, was born on the 16th day of September 1954 in Houston, Texas to the late Dow Leroy Gordon, Jr. and Edwyna Sue Bristow Gordon.
Mike was a man who truly showed up for life. Nothing meant more to him than family; when his children were growing up, he was the devoted cheerleader and coach for his kids for all their baseball, softball, and football games and recitals and the proudest observer at every grandchild’s event. He taught his family the value of hard work and the even greater value of being there for the people you love.
Mike was a graduate of Elkhart High School. After graduation, he attended college for a short time and went on to have a long career with Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked as a supervisor in the car shop before retiring. Mike was a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge of Elkhart, where he formed lasting friendships. Also, he was elected two terms as Mayor and several years as a City Council Member for the city of Elkhart where he willingly and diligently served the citizens in his community. Mike enjoyed hunting, collecting guns, restoring old electronics, and fixing various things by researching videos on YouTube. Mike was loved by all and will be sorely missed but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him dearly.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Terry Fitzpatrick.
He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Helen Sheridan Gordon; son, Jerod Gordon and wife Jessie of Tyler, Texas; daughter, Julie Gordon of Elkhart, Texas; sister, Connie Goodman of College Station; brother, Pat Gordon of Elkhart, Texas; and his beloved grandchildren, Aubrey, Cameron, and Mason. Mike also leaves behind extended family members and numerous friends.
