Michael Haney Obituary

Michael Ryan Haney, a cherished soul known for his friendly demeanor, loving heart, and handy skills, passed away suddenly at his home on March 12, 2025. Born on June 15, 1958, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Joseph William Haney, Sr. and Patricia Ann Slaughter, Michael's life was a testament to the values of family, hard work, and kindness.

A proud graduate of Palestine High School in 1975, Michael's commitment to community was evident throughout his life. After a rewarding 25-year career as a manager at Walmart, he retired but never ceased to be a pillar in the lives of those around him. His dedication to service shone brightly through his role as a pastor of several churches. Michael's unwavering faith and ability to inspire others were hallmarks of his leadership within the church and children's ministry.

An avid outdoorsman, he found solace and joy in fishing, kayaking, and especially loved going down the Neches River. His adventurous spirit was matched by a profound willingness to lend a hand; Michael would help anyone in need and never met a stranger.

Those who knew Michael would describe him as loving, friendly, and faith-filled. These words not only capture his essence but also the impact he had on every life he touched. Michael's presence was a source of comfort and joy, and his legacy will continue to be felt through the countless lives he enriched with his compassion and spirit.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents and his sisters, Mary Grace Bichell and Kathleen Haney, who welcomed him into eternal peace.

Michael spent 49 years with his beloved wife, Debra Haney, who was not only his partner but also his best friend. Their union was blessed with two children, Michelle Price and her husband Joshua, and Colton Ryan Haney with his wife Elizabeth. These children, along with his cherished grandchildren, Mercy O'Neal, Kale O'Neal, Trinity Reed, Christabel Haney, Harley Haney, and Kashton Ryan Haney, and great-grandchild, Ezra Reed, will forever cherish the legacy of Michael's boundless warmth and generosity.

Michael's siblings, Patricia Guzman and Joseph William Haney, Jr., will remember him as the cornerstone of their family. His presence was a source of strength and support, always offering a helping hand or a word of encouragement to those in need. His extended family, including numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives, along with a host of friends, will miss his ever-present smile and open heart.

Michael’s family will honor his wishes to be cremated, and they will host a celebration of life service at 11:00am., on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Evangelistic Temple.

The family requests that all food and flower arrangements be sent to Evangelistic Temple on the day of the service.
