Mildred L. Russell, known affectionately as Millie to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on Monday, the 23rd of September 2024, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 80. Born on the 3rd of May 1944, in Oakwood, Texas, she was the beloved daughter of Archie Roberson and Lorene Thompson.
As a long-standing member of the Country Chapel Church in LaRue, Texas, Millie's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She found immense joy in serving others, whether it was through organizing the church's food drive or dedicating her time to various church activities. Her efforts were not only acts of service but also profound expressions of her faith-filled heart.
Millie's organizational skills were legendary, and her home was a reflection of her meticulous nature. Visitors were always welcomed into an immaculate space, which was both a sanctuary for her family and a symbol of her loving care. Her culinary skills were equally renowned, with her kitchen being the heart of many family gatherings where laughter and love were the main ingredients of every meal.
A woman of many passions, Millie had a green thumb that could coax the most vibrant flowers and the heartiest vegetables from her garden. This love of gardening was paralleled by her passion for fashion. She carried herself with an elegance that was both effortless and captivating, an outward expression of her inner grace.
Above all, Millie cherished her family. Her love for them was boundless, and she nurtured each relationship with tenderness and unwavering support. Her presence was a source of comfort and strength, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She joins in Heaven her parents, husband Jack Russell, and sisters, Gloria Ann Vega and Doris Renee Torres.
Millie is survived by her devoted children: David Russell and wife Jessica Alexander of Tyler, Texas, Christy Walker and husband Torrey, of Tyler, Texas, and Michael Russell and wife Candy of Kilgore, Texas. She also leaves behind her brother, A.J. Roberson, of Elkhart, Texas. Her role as a grandmother was one of her greatest joys, and she will be deeply missed by her beloved grandchildren: Hope, Christa, Ashlyon, Tavin, Zoey, Christian, Ryan, and Mikayla. Each of them was a precious gift in her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
A visitation will be held from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 30th day of September 2024 at Rhone Funeral Home.
