Miyoko Callaway, of Palestine, Texas, passed away peacefully after a long and fulfilling life on Sunday, the 29th day of January 2023. She was 92 years of age when the Lord called her home. Mrs. Callaway was born on the 14th day of July 1930, to parents Jisuke Hayashizaki and Aki Hayashizaki.
Mrs. Callaway was born in Yonezawa, Japan and moved to the United States after meeting and marrying the love of her life, David Callaway, Jr. Mrs. Callaway was a true pioneer of her time. After moving to a new country, she quickly began to embrace different customs, but always remembering her roots. Mrs. Callaway raised a loving family of three sons. She was a talented cosmetologist and later opened her own hair salon. She loved her clients, and they loved her.
Mrs. Callaway was an excellent cook and an accomplished artist. She created beautiful masterpieces that she displayed at several art shows around Anderson County. Her paintings are displayed in many Palestine homes. She was also a former Yoga instructor and taught Tai-Chi classes. Mrs. Callaway and her husband enjoyed traveling and especially loved to visit different Elderhostel’s throughout the world.
Mrs. Callaway was involved in various organizations throughout the community including art clubs, Guion Music Club, For the Love of Music, Master Gardener’s, and her most beloved organization, Harvey Woman’s Club, where she would display her art pieces at various events. Most importantly, Mrs. Callaway was a baptized believer who loved the Lord and attended services regularly at First Baptist Church in Palestine before her health declined. She was a one-of-a-kind, gentle, and kind-spirited lady who will be greatly missed in the community and by all her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jisuke and Aki Hayashizaki, and her grandson, John Michael Callaway.
Mrs. Callaway will always be loved by her husband of 67 years David Callaway, Jr.; sons, John Callaway and wife Wanda of Tyler, Texas, Bill Callaway and Judy Johnson of Palestine, Texas, and Pat Callaway of Fort Worth, Texas; her grandchildren, Jedidiah Callaway and wife Samantha, Michelle McDaniels and husband Will, Meredith Glover and husband Jason; and great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Madison, and Gabe.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 1st day of February 2023 in the Parlor and Reflection Room of Rhone Funeral Home.
A funeral service to celebrate Mrs. Callaway’s life is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 2nd day of February 2023 at First Baptist Church in Palestine with Bro. Tony Watson officiating the service. Immediately following, the family will have a private interment in Roselawn Park.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Mark Harcrow, Sr., Tommy Sanders, Jerry Blackmon, Jason Glover, Gabe McDaniels, and Jedidiah Callaway. Michael Ezzell will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
The family would like to thank the staff on Elizabeth Lane at Legacy at Town Creek, the staff of Heart-to-Heart Hospice, and therapist Laura Cunningham for the compassionate care they provided.
