Nelda "June" Dickson Obituary

Nelda June Dickson was born in St. Clair County, Alabama to William Dean and Lila Mae Peace Dorsett on February 19, 1937.  She passed away on May 10, 2025, at the age of 88.  “June” as she was affectionately known, moved to Pasadena, Texas with her family in 1953. There she made lifelong friends.  This is also where she met her husband, Brince Dickson, and they married in December 1954.  They had their first two children there, a daughter Sandra and a son Brince.  Later they moved to Palestine where they had two more children, Tammy and Kenneth.

After all her children started school, June began working for Johnnie Herrington Insurance Agency where she worked for several years.  When ALCOA began operations in Palestine in 1976, she began working there until its closure around 1983.

During her time in between jobs, she decided to finish college.  June began at Trinity Valley Community College and continued at The University of Texas at Tyler.  She completed her college education and received her degree in Business.  During this time, she also started working for Nucor Steel in Jewett, Texas.  She made the commute from Jewett to Tyler several evenings a week to complete her degree and never complained.  She was strong-willed and determined, as all her family and friends would agree.

June retired from Nucor Steel in 2000.  Shortly after, her husband, Brince, was diagnosed with cancer.  She took loving care of him until his death in September of 2004.   They were married for 49 years.

June was never idle.  She began working part time at the Neches Water Department and spent the rest of her time working in her flower garden, which she loved.  She worked tirelessly and completed every task she set her mind to.  She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and children whom she loved dearly.  June was depended on by all her family and will be greatly missed.

June was a member of Dogwood Hills Baptist Church.  She was a Christian and was comforted in knowing she would be reunited with her loved ones after her time here with us.  She is preceded in death by her parents Lila Mae and William Dean Dorsett, husband Brince Dickson, brothers Don Dorsett, Randall Dorsett and Bill Dorsett, brothers-in-law L.D. “Pete” Dickson and Mike McConathy, and her sisters-in-law Beverly Dorsett, Melanie Dorsett, Elsie Dickson, and Alice Dickson.

June is survived by her children Sandra and husband Reggie Gregory of Crockett, Brince and wife Julie Dickson of Palestine, Tammy and husband Keith Burnett of Palestine, Kenneth and wife Becky Dickson of Palestine; grandchildren, Jim and wife Crystal Gregory, Heather and husband Jeff Pierce, Stacy and husband Charlie Davidson, Melinda and husband Garrett Tadlock, Michelle and husband Cole Dishongh, Stephanie and husband Jimmy Karnes, Melissa and husband Michael Henderson, Kimberly and husband Michael Lumley, Kristen and husband Jake Sparkman, Dylan Burnett, Trent and wife Kristin Dickson, Garrett and wife Brianna Dickson, Grant and wife Reagan Dickson; 28 Great-Grandchildren; and 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren.  She also leaves behind her brother, Ralph and wife Dianne Dorsett; sisters-in-law, Linda Dorsett, Neda Dorsett, Tina Dorsett, Serena McConathy; brother-in-law, Fred Dickson; and many loved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Rhone Funeral Home.
