Nelia "Jo" (Barnett) Holley

Nelia Jo Holley, of Palestine, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, the 17th day of November 2021, at the age of 93.  Mrs. Holley was born on the 2nd day of July 1928, in Athens, Texas, to parents John Henry Barnett and Bonnie Barton Barnett.

Mrs. Holley was a devout Christian and a member of Southside Baptist Church in Palestine, where she enjoyed worshiping with her brothers and sisters in Christ.  Mrs. Holley had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing hymns of praise every Sunday.  She adored her children and all her grandchildren very much.  Mrs. Holley loved being in the company of other people whether you were an old friend or a new acquaintance.  She was a talented seamstress who made many outfits for her grandchildren and was an avid collector of angels and sunflowers.  She was proud to be a member of the hospital auxiliary. Mrs. Holley was a dear friend to many and will be genuinely missed.     

She joins in Heaven her parents, Henry and Bonnie Barnett; husband, J.T. Holley; daughter, Carol Johnson; son, Herschel Wayne Holley; sister, Mary Juanita Laminack; and brother, John Darrell Barnett.

Mrs. Holley will be greatly missed by her son-in-law, Lionel Johnson of Palestine, Texas; brother, James Barnett and wife Margaret of East Tawakoni, Texas; grandchildren, Lora and husband Richard Miller, Ramona and husband Keith January, Scott and wife Jamie Johnson, Jonathan Nehring, and Russell and wife Darlene Thomas; great-grandchildren, Magan, Krista, Ashleigh, Tyler, Kyle, Chris, Isabel, Amber, Cheyene, Caleb; and great-great-grandchildren, Hayes and Kolt.

A funeral service to celebrate Jo Holley’s life is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 20th day of November 2021 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Dr. David English and nephew Jim Barnett officiating.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens, Texas.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from ten o’clock until eleven o’clock in the morning prior to the start of the service at Rhone Funeral Home.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Lionel Johnson, Scott Johnson, Chris Buckley, Kye Miller, Jon David Haselden, Justin Bogue, Richard Miller, and June Morrison.  Honorary pallbearers are Jonathan Nehring and Russell Thomas.
