Othelia Main Obituary

Othelia Main, age 98, joined our Heavenly Father on the 5th day of October 2024 after almost a century on this earth. It would take a novel to tell her life story but anyone that ever knew her holds a chapter near their heart.

Known affectionately as Mamaw, she was born March 24, 1926, as one of ten children to Martin and Katie Huddleston in Palestine, Texas where she lived most of her life. Having been raised during The Great Depression, she knew the value of hard work and the beauty of simplicity. She married Kenley Main in 1943, and they would remain wedded for almost 50 years, until his death. Ultimately, Othelia and Kenley would pass away on the very same day, October 5th, 32 years apart.

Othelia and Kenley relocated to Dallas in the ‘60s. While working for Gulf Insurance, she was able to step outside and see President John F. Kennedy’s motorcade coming down Lemmon Avenue. After moving back to Palestine in the ‘70s, Othelia had her own business raising exotic birds and was also the bookkeeper for Kenley’s Painting business.

Mamaw’s hobbies included sewing, canning, ceramics and crocheting. She was an excellent cook and her meals were enjoyed by everyone. She was a lover of nature and animals. She enjoyed nurturing chickens, dogs, cows, flowers, peach trees and dogwood trees.  Mamaw possessed the kindest heart and was always caring for others. Her love for family and extended family was boundless, as was her love of Coca-Cola.

While we will miss Mamaw, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on through her recipes, the countless lives she touched and the lessons she imparted on those that knew her. Her unwavering faith, positive nature, limitless love and power of kindness will always be remembered. Mamaw leaves behind an extraordinary example of a life well-lived.

Mamaw is survived by two children, Jimmie Main and Patsy (Bill) Chandler, three grandchildren, Eric (M’Recia) Beshires, Jennifer Beshires and Andie (Branden) Yarbrough, and five great-grandchildren, Zachary (Madison) Beshires, Logan (Elizabeth) Beshires, Beau Beshires, Dylan Yarbrough and Allie Yarbrough. Othelia also leaves behind her brother, Philmon Huddleston and numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Othelia is reunited in Heaven with her mother and father, Martin and Katie, her husband, Kenley, brothers Weldon, Ira, Howard, A.L., Hilton, Herold, sisters, Cornelia and Geneva, son-in-law Larry Beshires and many others she held dear.

A Celebration of Life service to honor Othelia Main is to commence at two o’clock in the afternoon, on Sunday, the 13th day of October 2024 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held at one o’clock with a burial at Roselawn Park following the service. Othelia’s nephew, Bro. Jamie Hogan will be officiating the service.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Eric Beshires, Branden Yarbrough, Matt Giffrow, Alex Huddleston, Zach Beshires, and Logan Beshires.
