Peggy Jane McFarland, a beacon of wisdom and love, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday the 3rd day of May 2025, surrounded by her friends. Born on the 23rd day of February 1926, in Commerce, Texas, to Louie Hollon and Velma Ragan, Ms. McFarland was a woman of great faith and strength, whose life was a testament to her loving and honest character.
Raised by Ralph Ragan and Velma Nelson Ragan, who preceded her in death, along with her lifelong friend, Mildred Clark. Peggy grew into a strong Christian woman, deeply involved in her community and church. She was a long-standing and active member of the First Baptist Church Grapeland, where she shared her faith and wisdom generously with all those around her.
Ms. McFarland's professional life was marked by years of dedicated service at Southwestern Bell Telephone and a member of Telephone Pioneers, where she not only excelled in her work but also formed lasting friendships and connections. Her colleagues remember her as a matter-of-fact person, whose straightforward approach was always tempered with kindness and understanding.
Ms. McFarland's interests and hobbies were as diverse as they were engaging. She was mechanically inclined, a trait that was evident in her woodworking projects and her adeptness with shop tools. Her love for reading kept her mind sharp, and her passion for camping allowed her to enjoy nature's tranquility. Ms. McFarland was a very organized individual, a quality that was reflected in every aspect of her life, from her home to her meticulous planning for any endeavor she undertook.
Never one to shy away from a conversation, Ms. McFarland never met a stranger. Her warm and welcoming nature meant that she quickly turned acquaintances into friends and friends into family. She leaves behind special friends who became just that: Eddie and Toni Childress, Karen Lindem, Judy Glazener, Marilyn Harbich, Jim and Regina Swanson, and many others who will cherish her memory and the impact she had on their lives.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 6th day of May 2025 in the Molly Ray Room at Rhone Funeral Home.
Graveside services to celebrate Peggy McFarland’s life will be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon, on Wednesday, the 14th day of May 2025 at Earthman Memory Garden Cemetery, 8624 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas with Eddie Childress officiating the service.
