Raymond Rogers Obituary

Ottis Raymond Rogers Jr., age 85, of Palestine, left this earth to spend his eternity with Jesus on the 3rd day of December, 2019 at Legacy at Town Creek.  He was born on the 7th day of November, 1934, in Palestine, Texas to Ottis Raymond Rogers Sr. and Mary Simms Rogers.  He married the love of his life, Shirley Earl Rogers, on December 20, 1968.

Raymond was a hard working man who excelled at whatever he chose to do.  After retiring as a draftsman/engineer from the state of Texas Highway Department, he was honored to be elected to serve the people as Anderson County Commissioner for Pct #3.  He also bought and sold land to develop Veteran Tracts for military veterans; he worked as a rancher/cattleman; he was a very gifted woodworker who created beautiful keepsakes for family and friends; but of all his occupations, his greatest desire was being a faithful servant for the Lord. Although currently a member at Southside Baptist Church, he served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Palestine for many years.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ottis Raymond Rogers Sr. and Mary Simms Rogers.

Raymond Rogers is survived by his loving wife of almost 51 years, Shirley Earl Rogers; daughters, Mary Elizabeth "Elisa" Moore and husband Matt of Amarillo, and Raygina “Gina” Bison and husband Mark of Palestine; brother, Charlie S. Rogers of Spring; grandchildren, Luke Moore  and Will Moore; father-in-law, Vernon Earl; nephews, Jace Rogers and Chad Rogers; and many, many friends.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Raymond Rogers will be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning, on Friday, the 6th day of December, 2019, at Southside Baptist Church in Palestine with Bro. David English and Bro Tony Watson officiating.  Interment will follow in Roselawn Park Cemetery in Palestine, Texas.

Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family, beginning at ten o’clock, until the start of the service.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Andrew Overton, Jace Rogers, Chad Rogers, Bob Riley, Jerry Hall, H.C. Langston, Mark Bison, and Matt Moore.  Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn McTee, Felix Thompson and Forrest Bomar.
