Richard Wright Obituary

Affectionately known as “Grandpa”, Richard DeWayne Wright, age 65, of Grapeland, went to be with our loving Lord and Savior on Wednesday, the 14th day of October 2020.  He was born in Salinas, California, on the 27th day of October 1954, to parents, Walter Donald Wright and Peggy Jean Edwards Wright.  Grandpa lived a life dedicated to the Lord and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years of service.

Grandpa held a special place in many hearts in the Grapeland Community.  He loved to spend time with his family and always made everyone feel loved, family or not.  Grandpa was very involved with his grandchildren and was a part of every sports team in which they participated.  On numerous occasions, Grandpa, brought smiles to many faces of the kids when he would provide snacks to everyone on the team.  Grandpa was most notably known for his cooking.  If you sat down at his kitchen table, he would hand you a menu and tell you to pick anything you want.  Then he would prepare your food as ordered.  He had a genuine love for taking care of others and a special place in our hearts will be forever his.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Peggy Wright, and one brother, Troy Wright.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Amber Mullen and husband Heath, Heather Caskey and husband Charles, all of Grapeland; sisters, Susan Varela of California, Erin Wilson and husband Jason of California; brother, Brian Wright of California; grandchildren, Taylar Mullen, Paige Mullen, Sage Caskey, Scout Caskey; and one great-grandchild on the way.  Grandpa also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Richard Wright are to be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon, on Sunday, the 18th day of October 2020 at First Baptist Church in Grapeland with Bro. Craig Vance and Dr. Roy   Morgan officiating.  Interment will follow in Davis Cemetery.
