Rita Faye Colvin, age 67, of Palestine, Texas, a woman known for her generosity, thoughtfulness, and courage, passed away peacefully on Saturday, the 4th day of November 2023. She was born in Wichita, Kansas, on the 26th day of November 1955, to parents Erby “Joe” J. Ashley and Ann Pauline Berden. Rita's life was marked by her unwavering spirit and loving heart.
Rita dedicated over 20 years of her life to the Palestine Regional Hospital, working diligently in the administration office. Her dedication and commitment to her profession were evident in the way she treated everyone she encountered with kindness and respect. Rita's work ethic and compassion made her a beloved figure in her community.
Rita had a particular fondness for arts and crafts. She found joy in the process of creating, whether it was a handmade gift for a loved one or a piece of art for her home. Her love for restoration was a testament to her belief in the beauty of second chances and new beginnings. She had a unique ability to see the potential in the old and worn, transforming them into something beautiful and cherished.
Rita's love for her family was unparalleled. She cherished her grandchildren, Kayla Colvin, and Tyler Colvin, who were the apple of her eye. Her family was her greatest masterpiece, and she poured her heart into nurturing and celebrating each member. Her love for people extended beyond her family, touching all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is now joining her parents, Erby “Joe” and Pauline Ashley, sister, Gail Shoemaker, and brother, Erby Ashley in Heaven.
Rita's family was her pride and joy. She leaves behind her loving sons, Jack Colvin, and Eric Colvin. She was a devoted mother, always prioritizing her children's needs and aspirations. Her love for them was boundless, and she was their unwavering pillar of strength. She also leaves behind her sisters, JoAnn Skidmore, Lesha Brockman, Brenda Woolen, and Diane Pannel, whose bonds of sisterhood were fortified with love, laughter, and shared memories. Rita's legacy extends beyond her immediate family. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she cherished the unique bond she shared with each one of them. Her loss will also be deeply felt by her many friends, whose lives were enriched by her kindness and warmth.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from one o’clock until two o’clock in the afternoon, on Saturday, the 11th day of November 2023 at Rhone Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Rita’s life is to commence at two o’clock in the afternoon, where John Marcum will officiate.
Interment will follow at Denson Cemetery in Grapeland, Texas.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Eric Colvin, Jack Colvin, Vance Skidmore, and Austin Skidmore.
