Obituary

Zelda Vernell “Sally” Jeffus, of Grapeland, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, the 18th day of July 2023, at the age of 91.  She is now in the presence of our loving Lord and Savior, until the day we are all reunited.  Mrs. Jeffus was born in Lovelady, Texas, on the 18th day of December 1931, to parents Noah Edward Price and Willie Harrelson Price.  Mrs. Jeffus was a loving, spirited, and passionate woman who touched the lives of many with her kindness and grace.

Mrs. Jeffus, a beacon of love and faith, was a devout Christian lady who loved the Lord with all her heart and was a proud member of the First Baptist Church, where she used her gifts to uplift and inspire others. Her beautiful voice resonated through the church walls as she sang in the choir, often harmonizing with her beloved husband, Cotton, until his passing. Their duets, filled with love and devotion, touched the hearts of all who heard them and will be remembered fondly by the congregation.

Mrs. Jeffus was a woman of many talents. Not only was she a fantastic cook, known for being able to whip up a delicious meal from whatever ingredients she had on hand, but she was also a talented artist and seamstress. Her works, just like her, were full of life and passion, and they will continue to bring joy to those who were fortunate enough to receive them.

For over 50 years, Mrs. Jeffus worked alongside her husband in the funeral industry, providing comfort and support to grieving families. Her empathy and kindness made a significant impact on the community, leaving a legacy that will not be forgotten. Despite her professional commitments, Mrs. Jeffus was a devoted housewife who loved to entertain, making everyone feel welcome and loved in her home.

Above all, Mrs. Jeffus was a loving matriarch who adored her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apple of her eye, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her love for them was evident in every interaction, and she will be greatly missed by them.

Her radiant spirit, infectious passion, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate a life well lived, filled with love, service, and devotion. May her soul rest in eternal peace and joy.

Mrs. Jeffus is preceded in death by her parents Noah and Willie Price; husband, Herman “Cotton” Jeffus; Bill Secrest; grandson, Caleb Jeffus; and her siblings.

She leaves behind her daughter, Kathy Jeffus Richmond and husband Mike; son, Ricky Jeffus and wife Jolen; granddaughters, Adrianne Davis and husband Trumon, Melanie Hutcherson and husband Michael, and Nicole Jeffus; grandsons, Jon-Michael Rhone and wife Jamie, Zane Rhone, Caleb Rhone and wife Julie; and her great-grandchildren, Walker Davis, Lauren Davis, Sawyer Davis, Jillian Rhone, Josie Rhone, Mack Rhone, Emma Rhone, and Ethan Hutcherson.  In addition, when Cotton and Sally’s daughter Kathy married Mike, she inherited an extended family including Mike’s daughter, Ashley Prince and husband Cullen, and their children, Gracie Prince and Kutter Prince, along with many other family members and friends.
