Sharon Ann Grizzle, age 76, of Palestine, Texas, joined her loving Lord and Savior on the 6th day of June 2023, in Palestine, Texas. She was born in Jackson, South Carolina on the 22nd day of August 1946 to parents Oliver J. Sullivan and Constance Telladira.
Mrs. Grizzle was a proud graduate of Irving High School, class of 1964. It was her love for helping others that led her to meet her husband, Burl, while volunteering for the Red Cross. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter.
A savvy businesswoman, Mrs. Grizzle was once the proud owner of a Best Western hotel, where she welcomed countless guests with her signature warmth and hospitality. She managed Eilenberger's Bakery, and was an active member of Business Professional Women, using her skills and experience to empower and support other women in the workforce.
Mrs. Grizzle's dedication to her community was evident in her extensive volunteer work and involvement in numerous organizations. She was a proud member of the Rotary Club of Palestine, Harvey Woman's Club, Palestine Chamber of Commerce, "We Care," and the Newcomers Welcome Committee. Her leadership and passion for service led her to serve on the boards of the YMCA and Meals on Wheels, where she made a lasting impact on countless lives.
Always eager to lend a helping hand, Mrs. Grizzle was active with the Boy Scouts and was known to step in wherever she was needed. In 2002, she was honored as the first woman Citizen of the Year for Palestine, a testament to her unwavering commitment to her community. In addition to her professional and volunteer work, Mrs. Grizzle was a member of the XINU Beta Chapter Sorority, where she formed lifelong friendships and continued her legacy of service and sisterhood.
Despite her busy schedule, Mrs. Grizzle always found time for her family and hobbies. She loved going to the Horseshoe Casino to try her luck at the tables, and her infectious enthusiasm made her a favorite among fellow gamblers and casino staff alike.
Sharon Ann Grizzle will be deeply missed by her loving family, her many friends, and the community she so tirelessly served. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
Mrs. Grizzle joins in Heaven her mother, Constance Telladira; father, Oliver Sullivan; stepmother, Julia Sullivan; sister, Sandy Wilson; and her brother, Billy Black.
Left to cherish the memories are Mrs. Grizzle’s husband of 54 years, Burl Grizzle; daughter, Brooke Mason, of Flint, Texas; son, Wade Grizzle, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; brother, Gary Sullivan; her beloved grandchildren, James Tyler Mason, Collin Nason Grizzle, Sharon Rose Grizzle, Carter Scott Grizzle; and one great-granddaughter, Maddie Anne Mason. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and a multitude of friends.
Friends are cordially invited to share memories of Mrs. Grizzle during a visitation from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 8th day of June 2023 at Rhone Funeral Home.
Funeral services to honor Mrs. Grizzle’s life are to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 9th day of June 2023 at Evangelistic Temple with Dan Manuel officiating the service.
The family will have a private interment at Roselawn Park in Palestine, Texas.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Mike Thomason, Mark Henderson, Hugh Summers, Greg Lindsey, Harold Campbell, Judge Michael Davis, Mark Davis, and Rev. Jordan Byrd.
