Sheryle Mayhew Dean, of Palestine, Texas, affectionately known as “Sherri” passed away peacefully on Saturday, the 24th day of February 2024, at Legacy at Town Creek. She was 81 years of age when the Lord called her home. Ms. Dean was born on the 3rd day of June 1942 in Houston, Texas to parents James Davis Mayhew and Velma Corenee Eggleston Stickland. A cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, Ms. Dean's vibrant spirit and loving nature touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Ms. Dean leaves behind her son, Scott Dean and wife Rita, of North Zulch, Texas; daughters, Brenda Pate and husband Jason, of Fairfield, Texas, Sheila Wedgeworth and husband Troy, of Conroe, Texas, and Chylon Davidson and husband Casey, of Palestine, Texas. She was an adoring grandmother to her eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, along with her eight nieces and nephews, whom she dearly loved. Ms. Dean is also survived by her brother Larry Mayhew and wife Lee, other family members and many friends.
She joins in Heaven her parents, James and Velma Mayhew; brother, J.D. Mayhew; sisters, Margo Sue Etter, Glenda Green; and her granddaughter, Amy Dean.
Ms. Dean retired after a fulfilling career where she skillfully managed the bustling waterways as a dispatcher for barge channels in Houston. Her expertise and dedication later led her to a second career as a dispatcher for truck drivers, where she was equally respected and admired for her professionalism and ability to handle the most challenging situations with grace.
Beyond her professional life, Ms. Dean's passions were manifold. Her love for her children and grandchildren knew no bounds, and she nurtured them with the same care and attention she gave to her beloved horses and all animals. A pillar of the community, she was deeply involved with the 4H club, where she served as a rabbit leader, inspiring young minds with her knowledge and enthusiasm.
Ms. Dean's green thumb was legendary; she possessed the amazing ability to coax life from the soil, her gardens a testament to her patience and skill. Her culinary talents were equally renowned, as she was an excellent cook who relished the joy of preparing meals for family and friends. Her recipes and the memories of shared feasts will remain treasured keepsakes.
A woman who loved to talk, Ms. Dean never met a stranger. Her friendly conversations and spirited laughter were the hallmark of her engaging personality. Those who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her will remember a woman who was the epitome of loving, friendly, and spirited.
Friends are invited to visit with the family and share memories of Ms. Dean from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 29th day of February 2024 at Rhone Funeral Home.
Graveside services to honor Sherri Dean’s life are to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 1st day of March 2024, at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas.
Those honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are Matthew Shultz, Kyler Wedgeworth, Jason Pate, Casey Davidson, Jacob Pratt, and Troy Wedgeworth.
