Sophia Ansley Obituary

Sophia Mae Ansley, of Yantis, Texas, and formerly of Buffalo, Texas, peacefully passed away at home on Wednesday, the 29th day of March 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was surrounded by her loved ones when the Lord called her home at the age of 76.  Mrs. Ansley was born in Texas City, Texas, on the 27th day of September 1946 to parents William Pickens and Nina Beatrice Owen Pickens.

Mrs. Ansley was truly a loving person who was known for her kindness and gentle nature.  She graduated from nursing school in 1989 and went on to fulfill her passion of caring for patients, a career she deeply loved.  She later retired in 2005, only due to her own illness and undergoing open heart surgery.

Mrs. Ansley was the loving and devoted wife of Mack Ansley, Sr. for many years until his passing, and a caring mother to her three children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She always supported her family and let them know how much she deeply loved them.  She also had an enthusiasm for volunteering and instilled that desire in her children.  Mrs. Ansley was extremely loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents William and Nina Pickens; husband, Herman “Mack” Ansley, Sr.; son, John Edgar Ansley; sisters, Brunelle Walton and Maudine Coburn; and her brother, Grady Holmes.

Mrs. Ansley leaves behind her daughter, Janet Burns; son, Herman Ansley, Jr.; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren with two on the way.

Graveside services to honor Mrs. Ansley’s life are to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 1st day of April 2023 at Buffalo City Cemetery in Buffalo, Texas.  Bro. Gene Darby and Bro. Dylan Ansley will be officiating the service.

Friends are invited to visit with the family, beginning at half-past one o’clock in the afternoon until the start of the service at Buffalo City Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Mrs. Ansley’s grandsons, J.T. Ansley, Kurt Ansley, Jefferey Ansley, Justin Ansley, Kenneth Williams, and William Burns.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial donations be directed towards Leukemia Research Foundation, https://leukemiarf.org/donate.
