Terry Lee Coates, age 66, of Oakwood, Texas, departed this life for his heavenly home on Wednesday, the 14th day of September 2022. Mr. Coates was born on the 21st day of December 1955, to parents Ernest Coates, Jr. and Lela Wade Barnett Coates.
Mr. Coates was born in Palestine, Texas and raised in Oakwood, Texas. He worked as a welding instructor for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Windham School District before retiring. Mr. Coates was an all-around great guy, who never met anyone that didn’t fall in love with him. He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed joking around with his friends and family. He was an avid fisherman, and he loved watching old western movies, and Houston Astros baseball games on television.
Mr. Coates was a giving man who left an impact on many people throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the Oakwood Church of Christ and led singing at many of the church services. Mr. Coates had a strong love for the Lord. He read his Bible faithfully and applied the lessons he learned to his everyday life. Even though we are sad for the loss of our loved one, we know Mr. Coates looked forward to the day the Lord would call him home and we rejoice for him.
In heaven, Mr. Coates joins his father, Ernest Coates, Jr.
Mr. Coates is survived by his wife JoAnn Coates; mother, Lela Coates; son, Scott Coates and wife Karen of Georgia; daughters, Christi Simmons and husband John of Georgia, Meghan Coates of Palestine, and stepdaughter, Britney Hindam and husband Stephen of Bullard; brothers, Michael Coates and wife Martha of Waco, and Mark Coates and wife Debbie of Oakwood. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Maeci, Bella, Aiden, Wesley, Alex, and Shirley, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Coates is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning, on Saturday, the 17th day of September 2022 at Oakwood Church of Christ.
