Thomas Earl Irvin, of Grapeland, Texas, known affectionately to many as Mr. Irvin, passed away peacefully on the 2nd day of January 2025, at the age of 92 in Lufkin, Texas. He was born on the 21st day of August 1932 in Rosser, Texas to parents Lawrence Irvin and Hattie young Irvin.
Mr. Irvin proudly served his country as a member of the US Army for over twenty-seven years, including a tour in the Korean War. His courage and dedication to his nation were unwavering, and his service was a significant chapter in his life that shaped the man he became. Following his military career, he continued a life of service in his community as an investigator and detective, where his keen insight and steadfast commitment to justice were highly respected.
A member of the Church of Christ, Mr. Irvin's faith was a cornerstone of his existence, guiding him through life's challenges and joys. His spirituality was reflected in the way he lived, always striving to be a source of wisdom and support to those around him.
Mr. Irvin's love for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. He found pleasure in gardening, taking pride in planting a variety of vegetables and watching them flourish under his care. His passion for fishing was more than a hobby; it was a way for him to connect with nature and the tranquility it offered. His hands were rarely still, as he was also incredibly handy, often found refurbishing and revitalizing objects that others might have discarded. He brought the same care and attention to these projects as he did to every aspect of his life.
Country and western music held a special place in Mr. Irvin's heart, its melodies and stories resonating with his own life experiences. The music was a backdrop to many of the moments he spent with friends and family, encapsulating the essence of his roots and the values he held dear.
Described by those who knew him as wise, handy, and courageous, Mr. Irvin embodied the qualities that many aspire to. His presence was a comfort, his advice sought after, and his actions a reflection of his integrity. As Helen Keller once said, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Mr. Irvin's legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Mr. Irvin is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Hattie Irvin, and his wife Joe Faulk Irvin.
He is survived by his daughter Traci Jones and husband Terrell of Grapeland, Texas; brother, Lawrence Irvin, Jr.; and his grandchildren, La‘Shae Jones, Telia Jones, Tristen Jones, Teira “T” Jones, Deston Dunn, Riley Quinn; his great-granddaughter, Dejiah Dunn; and additional family, Kristen Hamblet. Mr. Irvin will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will remain a guiding light for all who were touched by his remarkable life.
