Troy L’Wayne Blackmon, of Belott, Texas passed away at Hospice in the Pines in Lufkin, Texas on June 5, 2024. He was born on February 13, 1936, in Lufkin, Texas to Roye L. Blackmon, Sr. and Lona Pyle Blackmon. He graduated from East Mountain High School in 1954 and Sam Houston State University with a Master of Education in 1968.
Troy served his country in the United States Army from 1961–1964 in the Security Division, Arlington Hall Station in Arlington, Virginia. He served as Music Director in many different churches throughout his lifetime. Troy was an educator working in the public school system for over 40 years teaching history, government, and english for jr. high and high school students. He also was a jr. high and high school principal.
Troy loved refereeing football and basketball for over 50 years. In his spare time, he was a wonderful carpenter. Some of his workmanship is displayed in local establishments, churches, and schools. He loved making the American and Texas flags as well as martin and bluebird houses.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Roye Leylon Blackmon, Jr., daughter-in-law Sandra Neal Blackmon, and grandson SSG Michael Joseph Quintero.
He is survived by his wife of 39 1/2 years, Pamela Blackmon; children Connie Blackmon of Edna, Texas, Wesley and Vickie Blackmon of Henderson, Texas, JoDean Quintero of Wallis, Texas, Tammy and Michael Luce of Grapeland, Texas; brother Herb and Jan Blackmon of Titusville, Florida; sisters-in-law Peggy Blackmon of Sugar Land, Texas and Cheri McDonald and Gary of Zavala, Texas; grandchildren Adam, Andrew, and Alex Blackmon of Henderson, Texas, David and Christina Quintero of East Bernard, Texas, Alton and Chiane Luce, of Grapeland, Texas, Hunter and Cheyenne Luce of Belott, Texas, Jonathan and Cayden Luce of Marshall, Texas; great-grandchildren Dominic and Candon Quintero of East Benard, Texas, Brixley and Charlie Luce of Grapeland, Texas; and his precious furry companion, Juni.
Graveside services to honor Troy Blackmon’s life are to be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at New Energy Cemetery in Belott, Texas, with Bro. Bill Jones and Bro. Charles Pyle officiating the service.
Prior to the start of the service, friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at two o’clock in the afternoon at New Energy Cemetery.
