Bill Gruhn, of Slocum, completed his earthly journey of 69 years on Sunday, the 13th day of June 2021 and joined our loving Father in Heaven. He was born on the 19th day of April 1952, in Omaha, Nebraska to parents William H. Gruhn and Muriel Brownelle Gruhn.
Bill was a courageous American who took great pride in serving this country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a truck driver before retiring and taking on his most loved role as a grandfather. Bill loved his family and especially his grandchildren. His hobbies included fishing, camping, playing a game of solitaire every day, and growing a garden every year. You could also find Bill in front of the TV watching sports including football and NASCAR. Bill was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church and lived his life in accordance with the Bible. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose spirit will never be forgotten.
Bill will be missed by his adoring family including his wife of 42 years, Karen Gruhn; daughter, Melissa Smith and husband Oscar, Jr. of Slocum; sons, Bobby Gruhn of Slocum, and Ken Gruhn and wife Shelli of Nebraska; sister, Paula Klingler and husband Steve of Georgia; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Bills joins in Heaven his parents, William and Muriel Gruhn.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 18th day of June 2021 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel.
A funeral service to celebrate Bill’s life and the rendering of Military Funeral Honors is to be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon, on Saturday, the 19th day of June 2021 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Bill's memory can be directed towards the Vietnam Veterans of America, Dogwood Chapter #991, Po. Box 10 Palestine, Texas 75802.
